Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts

Last weekend I attended the opening of the annual juried show at the Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts, located at 401 Canal Place in Little Falls.  Here is a link to check out their many events.  http://www.mohawkvalleyarts.org/   The juried show runs from August 24 through September 21 with the gallery open Tuesday through Saturday from 12-4 pm.  My entries were two new pieces and so I was very pleased that they made the cut.  "Tea for Two" is a quirky drawing of my daughter pouring tea for me in a wonderful Irish Pub in Long Beach California.  Whenever I visit, we go to the weekly Irish music jam session.  Wonderful musicians sit casually around the table bursting into songs as each one gets an inspiration and the others jump in as they catch the feel.  A dimly lit interior of lovely old wood and furnishings with light streaming in from the open doors in the front.  "Shazam!" is the title of the crystal doorknob piece.  I loved the way the colorful shadow shot across the door as the light poured in from the window.  A strong, abstract shape that really grabbed me.  I actually worked some more on the values after these photos, but you can get an idea.

Old Forge Again

One of my pieces was recently juried into the Masters' Division of the Central Adirondack Art Show at Old Forge, NY this year.  The new facility is just beautiful and I am always proud to have my work on display in their show.  Here is the Masters' Division piece.  I named this one "Farm Days".  I liked the quiet nostalgia of these homey farm mementos from a peaceful part of my past.  Hope you like it!

Impressions of New England at last

I was very proud and pleased to be notified that my larger piece - "Time After Time" has been accepted for the 2013 Bennington Center for the Arts "Impressions of New England" Juried Show.  This piece was challenging because of the large amount of detail, but also fun because all the objects have personal connections.  The clock cookie jar is the only thing my husband has from his mother's kitchen and the milk bottle is from the family farm on my side of the family.  The other bottles and packages are all from the old farmhouse I once lived in.  These things sit on my refrigerator top and catch the light so beautifully, as I tried to capture in this drawing.

The Bennington Center for the Arts is located at 44 Gypsy Lane, Bennington, Vermont 05201.  It is open daily from 10-5:00pm and closed on Tuesdays. Here is the link for further information.  http://thebennington.org/  Impressions of New England opens June 8 and runs until August 25.

Cooperstown Art Association!

My new piece, "Farm Days" was accepted for the Cooperstown Art Association's Regional Juried Show - "Essential Arts".  "Farm Days" was quite a challenge because of the close up view of and lettering and lettering on the objects.  I also added a strawflower that was not actually in the arrangement.  I was really honored that this piece won one of the prizes - the "Artware Award" at the show.

The show runs from May 3-31 and is located in the elegant, old library at 22 Main Street, Cooperstown, NY  13326.  The hours are daily 11-4, Sundays 1-4 with closed on Tuesdays.  Here is a link for more information.  http://www.cooperstownart.com/home.html  Hope you can come!

Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts!

Sorry this is late - lots of things going on in my "real" life and this slipped by.  My solo show at the Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts, 401 Canal Place, Little Falls, NY 13365 is titled "The Moon in the Spoon" and features 22 of my colored pencil pieces.  It runs from March 23 through April 20.  I am proud to be on display at this attractive gallery.  Here is the link for MVCA - http://www.mohawkvalleyarts.org .  The title piece is a favorite of mine and was my surprise prize winning piece as you can see below from the Crandall Library post.  I chose this image for my new business cards!
