A website and new blog!

This month I am starting a first time website - Lynda Naske Fine Art.  I will be continuing any blog posts on this website but will not be able to transfer all my old posts.  My website will be a way to show all of my available artwork as well as writing about the travels my pieces make to events and shows.

Paul Nigra Arts Center Women's Show!

My drawing, "Tea for Two" is currently on display at the Paul Nigra Center's 2020 Art Show - "Women's Movement - Art By, For and About Women".  This exhibition celebrates the 100th anniversary of women's right to vote.  The Art Center is located at 2736 Route 30, Gloversville, NY and this exhibition runs until March 27 when a reception from 6-8 pm will close the show.  The drawing captures my daughter's hands in a long ago outing we shared.  The image has always seemed iconic - the simple and enduring moment of intimacy experienced by two people over a pot of tea.

Shirt Factory Gallery

I have had two drawing accepted for the upcoming Shirt Factory Gallery annual juried Small Works show.  "Footlights" is a pastel still life collection in a favorite genre - a still life of shiny and reflective silver objects.  "Gimme a Little Squeeze" is an accidental still life grouping of lemon slices in the bottom of my sink.  This show runs from February 12 - March 14.  The Gallery is located at 71 Lawrence Street, Studio 120, Glens Falls, NY and is open every day from 8am to 5pm.

LARAC/NCAMembers Show and

"Saddle Up" was my entry for the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council/North Country Arts Members' Show.  I drew this one from an instant "still life" I found when my grandchildren were taking a riding lesson.  I loved working with the warm, weathered browns of the different sections of leather and the pleasing composition!

Arkell Museum

"Hide and Seek" was accepted for the 2019 Arkell Museum juried show for the month of December.  This subject of this drawing is rather a whimsical one.  The cabbage teapot and other greenware items provided many nooks and crannies for a froggy game of hide and seek.  I created the spooky shadow areas with a flashlight.  See if you can find the one who is hiding.

Lake Placid Center for the Arts and NCA Crandall Library

I did a tribute to my father called "Dad's Hands" last year.  I always spent Friday afternoons with him watching the old westerns cable channel.  We sat in the matching recliners with lap quilts and sometimes he wanted to hold my hand.  I usually had some art things and my camera handy and captured some lovely images while he was snoozing.  Most shows require that pieces be for sale but I was able to show this piece at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts and NCA Crandall Library juried shows.  Since I focused on the hands in soft light for this piece and did not show my father's face, I felt that it had a wider meaning to anyone who has an elderly loved one with the beautifully weathered hands of a long life.  He passed away soon after I took this photo.

LARAC 2019

"The Beet Goes On" was on display in Glens Falls, NY at (LARAC) Lower Adirondack Regional Art Council's juried theme show - The Process.  This drawing showed the process from seed to plant to canned finished product.  I really enjoyed working in the bright reds and greens and the colorful details of the packaging!

PS Hagaman Fall Art Show Award!

"Butterfly Dreams", my portrait of my sleepy, face painted granddaughter, was awarded Best of Show at the 2019 Hagaman Fall Art Show.  I feel VERY honored and proud to have been selected for this award by the juror!  Please take another look at the previous post to see this pastel piece.

Hagaman Annual Fall Art Show

I will have 5 pastel pieces in the 28th Annual Hagaman Art Show.  The show will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 5 & 6 from 12 noon to 4 pm at Pawling Hall, 86 Pawling Street, Hagaman, NY.  There will be 60 talented area artists in a variety of mediums, lots of fall snacks and free admission.  Here is a one of my pastels - a drawing of my granddaughter, Katey, from long ago, sleepy and tired after an outing that included face-painting and a lot of walking.  It was FUN to do.

Frothingham Library Show

I have 15 drawings, oils and pastels and a shelf of mini oil paintings on display at the Frothingham Free Library in Fonda, NY for the entire month of September!  If you are in the area, stop in and see.  This small library is located at 28 West Main Street, across from Cumberland Farms, with hours of 11am -7pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 9am-1pm on Saturday and closed Thursday. Mohawk Valley Arts Center!

My brand new drawing, "Hide and Seek" was accepted for the 2019 Mohawk Valley Arts Center juried show.  The show is on display at the 401 Gallery, 401 Canal Street, Little Falls, NY until August 31.  My drawing was a whimsical idea prompted by some garden figurines and a green cabbage teapot.  I lit the scene artificially with a gooseneck lamp to place the shadows in the pattern I had in mind.  See if you can find the hidden frog before his two playmates do.

Central Adirondack Art Show

This year I submitted a new piece, "Dad's Hands", to the annual Central Adirondack "View" Show in Old Forge, NY and was pleased have it selected for the Masters' Division level of the exhibition.  This was a special drawing because it was from a photo slyly taken of my Dad snoozing in his recliner.  He passed away soon after.

North Country Arts

"Silk Road Stroll" also traveled to the North Country Arts juried show, also in Glens Falls, NY.  "Teapot Rising was also juried in.  This piece was also staged with a flashlight.  I especially like this whimsy piece and was initially tickled by the image of exploding milk on the milk top package.  The soft, yellow teapot emerging from shadow seemed like a rising moon and gave the title idea to me.

Adirondack Artists Guild

"Silk Road Stroll" was juried into the Adirondack Artists' Guild Show.  This Asian-themed piece was very complex and challenging to draw and took a long time to finish.  The pieces are pulled from my karate-loving daughter's old bedroom dresser display.  I was thinking about her as I lovingly worked on the varied items.

Shirt Factory

My drawing, "Phantoms" was selected for the annual Shirt Factory Gallery Small Works show in Glens Falls, NY.  This piece was "staged" with the lights turned off and a flashlight creating the desire lighting with my green crockery on my piano top.

A Little Catch Up

This Fall I displayed 3 pieces at the Paul Nigra Center for the Arts in Gloversville, NY.  The Art Center holds several shows each year for local and not so local artists.  My pieces were "A Moment for Mucha" - tribute to Alphonse Mucha, the turn of the century advertising and decorative artist, "Baby Makes Three" - a challenge I set for myself for an all black and white composition and "The Beet Goes On" - created for a show with the theme "full circle".

Hagaman Fall Show

I was very honored to have my still life drawing "Family Portrait" selected as Best of Show at the 27th annual Hagaman Fall Art Show.  I found this piece an especially challenging subject because of the detail in the antique silver items.  Many miles were put on my electric eraser as I refined and adjusted the reflections and subtle shifts in value.  I think my love of old silver "shines" through!

Bottle Museum Anniversary Show!

My bottle drawing, "Guard Dog", is current among the bottle-themed artwork on display at the National Bottle Museum in Ballston Spa, New York.  The Museum is celebrating its 10th year and chose to mark the milestone with a special retrospective on all the area artists who have ever participated in any of the events in their art gallery section.  The Museum is located at 76 Milton Avenue in Ballston Spa.  The show runs through September 1 and the hours are 10am-4pm Friday-Tuesday, closed Wednesday and Thursday.

"Guard Dog" is a little scene I see every day in a little window by my stairway.  It was really challenging to draw the little glints of colored light and sparkle coming through the old bottles.  The dog figurine sat on the table at my grandmother's house to hold the toothpicks!

"Earthly Possessions"

Eight of my drawings are currently on display at the Smithy Gallery, 55 Pioneer Street in Cooperstown, NY.  This is a themed show - "Earthly Possessions", as expressed by seven very different artists.  This show closes July 27, 2018 and Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 10am-5pm and 12-5 on Sunday.  Closed on Mondays.

The Smithy is located in the oldest building in Cooperstown, NY.   It was built in 1786 by village founder, Judge William Cooper, father of the author, James Fenimore Cooper, as a blacksmith shop.  Many original features of the shop can still be seen on the first floor.  The second and third floors have been used over the years as a carriage repair shop and a masonic hall.  All three floors now form a very unique and eclectic art gallery.

My Blank Notecards

I don't think I have ever posted the blank notecards I have for sale.  They are currently at Micropolis Gallery in Gloversville, LARAC gallery store in Glens Falls, Cooperstown Art Association gallery store in the Cooperstown Library and at the Mohawk Valley Art Association gallery store in Little Falls, all in New York State. They sell for $4 each.
