Hagaman Fall Show

I was very honored to have my still life drawing "Family Portrait" selected as Best of Show at the 27th annual Hagaman Fall Art Show.  I found this piece an especially challenging subject because of the detail in the antique silver items.  Many miles were put on my electric eraser as I refined and adjusted the reflections and subtle shifts in value.  I think my love of old silver "shines" through!

Bottle Museum Anniversary Show!

My bottle drawing, "Guard Dog", is current among the bottle-themed artwork on display at the National Bottle Museum in Ballston Spa, New York.  The Museum is celebrating its 10th year and chose to mark the milestone with a special retrospective on all the area artists who have ever participated in any of the events in their art gallery section.  The Museum is located at 76 Milton Avenue in Ballston Spa.  The show runs through September 1 and the hours are 10am-4pm Friday-Tuesday, closed Wednesday and Thursday.

"Guard Dog" is a little scene I see every day in a little window by my stairway.  It was really challenging to draw the little glints of colored light and sparkle coming through the old bottles.  The dog figurine sat on the table at my grandmother's house to hold the toothpicks!

"Earthly Possessions"

Eight of my drawings are currently on display at the Smithy Gallery, 55 Pioneer Street in Cooperstown, NY.  This is a themed show - "Earthly Possessions", as expressed by seven very different artists.  This show closes July 27, 2018 and Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 10am-5pm and 12-5 on Sunday.  Closed on Mondays.

The Smithy is located in the oldest building in Cooperstown, NY.   It was built in 1786 by village founder, Judge William Cooper, father of the author, James Fenimore Cooper, as a blacksmith shop.  Many original features of the shop can still be seen on the first floor.  The second and third floors have been used over the years as a carriage repair shop and a masonic hall.  All three floors now form a very unique and eclectic art gallery.

My Blank Notecards

I don't think I have ever posted the blank notecards I have for sale.  They are currently at Micropolis Gallery in Gloversville, LARAC gallery store in Glens Falls, Cooperstown Art Association gallery store in the Cooperstown Library and at the Mohawk Valley Art Association gallery store in Little Falls, all in New York State. They sell for $4 each.

Spring Opportunities!

2018 brought a number of interesting opportunities to show my drawings.  The Lake Placid Center for the Arts annual juried show was themed as "Flower Power" and so I needed to create a suitable drawing.  I had a lovely and inspiring reference photo of a cemetery angel surrounded by flowers.  I named this brand new piece "Remembrances".

 The Arts Factory of Montgomery County Art Show, currently on display at the Arkell Museum and Canajoharie Library's Community Galleries.  This show is part of the Parks & Trails New York Bicentennial Celebration of the Erie Canal.  My pastel, Blue Grotto, and my colored pencil drawing, Confidants, are among the artwork on display.  I chose them to compliment the Erie Canal theme.  Here I am at the reception with my two pieces.

I was very surprised and please to be notified that my drawing, Farm Days, was chosen for the 3rd Prize Best of Show in the Drawing Category at the recent Fulton Montgomery Art Show, held at the Paul Nigra Center for the Arts.  My background is farming and my parents were farm equipment dealers so these still life items have a lot of nostalgia for me.

I was also very please to be notified that my drawing, "Playing Hookey", was chosen for Masters Division at the View Juried Art Show in Old Forge, NY.  Masters Division represents the top 10 percent of pieces at the show as determined by the artist chosen to judge the show and determine award recipients.  "Playing Hookey" is a personal favorite piece.  A whimsy image of a stern rooster teacher, his little egg pupils and one little hookey player hiding out under the bridge for the day.

Butterfly Dreams

I forgot to update my blog with a VERY nice 2017 happening.  The Paul Nigra Center for the Arts "Art of Disguise" show last winter chose my pastel drawing, "Butterfly Dreams", as their postcard advertising image.  This was a special drawing for me because it is my granddaughter, Katey, (now 16) enjoying her face-painting session at a street fair.  A sweet time to remember.

Winter Shows

The Shirt Factory Gallery in Glens Falls, NY is presenting its sixth annual Juried Exhibition of Small Works.  The show runs from February 4 through March 24 with hours of noon to 5 pm. 

My pieces are normally relatively small so this is a show I always enter and hope to be selected for.  This year my drawing, "Hot Tub", was chosen.  This image was suggested by a collection of sea theme items on one of my windowsills.  A star fish and his sea horse friends all relaxing in a bubbly tub of marbles.

I also am showing a drawing in the Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts Winter Art Show.   This gallery is located at 2736 State Highway 30, Gloversville, NY.  My selected piece is called "It's Not Kansas" and is a tribute to the Wonderful Wizard and the books that live on and on for children of all ages. 

A prize at Crandall! (and this and that)

My new piece, "Baby Makes Three", was recently selected as one of 5 Juror's Choice awards at the North Country Arts annual juried show at the Crandall Library in Glens Falls, NY.  I had set myself the task of a black and white only drawing and I really liked bringing out the subtleties of the objects with only my two pencils and the mid-tone gray of the paper.

The Fulton County Chamber of Commerce in downtown Gloversville, NY held a month-long exhibit of area artists and my drawings, "Playing Hookey" and "Rise and Shine", were displayed in their gallery.

 

 

Two of my drawing were shown in the Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts teachers and students' show in Little Falls, NY.  "Razzle Dazzle" is an older piece that shows some of my vintage jewelry collection.  "Round Up" is a study of some western saddles at rest on a railing until the next riders climb aboard.  I hope you enjoy viewing these!
