2012 is finishing for me with 3 fun art events. In November, I showed 3 pieces in the Third Annual Hope for the Arts 1-Day Artfest at Hope Church in Ballston Spa, NY. I was very pleased to see that Crazy Quilt received an award for "best use of light" - something I am always trying for. This is a moment I happened upon in my kitchen when sunlight threw a patchwork "quilt" of shadow shapes across a spoon rack. It really looked exciting and I had to capture that moment.
In December, I participated in the North Country Arts Center's Annual Juried Art Show at the beautiful Crandall Library in Glens Falls, NY. I submitted a new pieces called, "The Moon in a Spoon" and was very happy and honored to receive one of 5 Juror's Choice awards. I created the lighting in this piece with a flashlight so that the shapes would create a balanced and pleasing composition. I love the soft colors and reflections on the antique silver and the old cut glass spoon jar. The show will run through December 29.
My Cooperstown Art Show piece, "Time After Time", was accepted for the 2012 Arkell Annual Juried Art Show at The Arkell Museum at the Canajoharie Library, which runs from December 7 through January 25. This is the largest piece I have done and took a VERY long time to complete. This arrangement shows vintage family items on the top of my refrigerator which cast the loveliest afternoon shadows. Items which were used and valued during their active life but continue to delight (me) time after time. Look below for this piece - clock cookie jar, milk bottles and old products.
