Holiday 2012

2012 is finishing for me with 3 fun art events.  In November, I showed 3 pieces in the Third Annual Hope for the Arts 1-Day Artfest at Hope Church in Ballston Spa, NY.  I was very pleased to see that Crazy Quilt received an award for "best use of light" - something I am always trying for.  This is a moment I happened upon in my kitchen when sunlight threw a patchwork "quilt" of shadow shapes across a spoon rack.  It really looked exciting and I had to capture that moment.

In December, I participated in the North Country Arts Center's Annual Juried Art Show at the beautiful Crandall Library in Glens Falls, NY.  I submitted a new pieces called, "The Moon in a Spoon" and was very happy and honored to receive one of 5 Juror's Choice awards.  I created the lighting in this piece with a flashlight so that the shapes would create a balanced and pleasing composition.  I love the soft colors and reflections on the antique silver and the old cut glass spoon jar.  The show will run through December 29.

My Cooperstown Art Show piece, "Time After Time", was accepted for the 2012 Arkell Annual Juried Art Show at The Arkell Museum at the Canajoharie Library, which runs from December 7 through January 25.  This is the largest piece I have done and took a VERY long time to complete.  This arrangement shows vintage family items on the top of my refrigerator which cast the loveliest afternoon shadows.  Items which were used and valued during their active life but continue to delight (me) time after time.  Look below for this piece - clock cookie jar, milk bottles and old products.

Lake Placid Prize

I was pleased and honored to receive the Best of Show - Drawing prize at the 2012  Lake Placid Center for the Arts Adirondack Juried Art Show for my drawing "A Little Night Music.  This was a larger and very complex drawing that took many, many long hours to complete and so it was especially nice to have the extra effort recognized in this way.  Here is a picture of me posing by my entries.

Finally made it!

After quite a few tries, I am pleased to say that I finally got one of my pieces into the Masters' Division of the Central Adirondack Art Show at Old Forge, NY.  The new facility is just beautiful and I am always proud to have my work on display in their show.  Here is the Masters' Division piece.  I named this one "Showstopper" because of the way this bright teapot steals the spotlight from the other items on display.  Yes, that is my real stove, a vintage beauty that I cook and bake at all the time.  Hope you enjoy this piece.

It's the National!!

I am proud to announce that two of my pieces have been accepted for the 77th Annual Cooperstown Art Association's National Juried Art Exhibition.  One accepted piece is already shown in the header of my blog - "Teapot Rising"  and the other is a new larger piece I named "Time after Time".  The show will run from July 13 - August 17 and is located in the beautiful Village Library Building on the corner of Fair and Main Street, diagonally across from the National Baseball Hall of Fame.  Here is a link for further information on the many ongoing events http://www.cooperstownart.com/national.html

An Oldie but Goodie

Three of my pieces were just juried in to the 14th Annual Juried Adirondack Artists' Guild show in Saranac Lake, NY. I decided to enter a special favorite, "Teapot Rising" and it won First Prize! This one is the image I have on my business cards. My horse harness arrangment, seen in the archives below, also was accepted, as well as a new still life of vintage coffee cans and old milk bottle, "Rise and Shine" which I have not had photographed yet. Here is a link to the show, which runs through April 19th. http://adirondackartistsguild.com/
