Art de Cure is a unique concept which brings art to an audience not likely to explore art galleries. Galleries are housed in medical practices and the work of regional artists is on display. The host practice chooses the charity that will benefit and Art de Cure curates the shows. Here is the link for further information http://artdecure.org/ Proud to participate. The cause for this current show will be the American Diabetes Association and works will be on display from December 9, 2011 - April 6, 2012. (and good, old Hagaman Fall Show)

My show at the Arkell Museum Community Gallery will open on October 7, 2011 and run until November 25th. I have two new larger works (for me) and will feature mainly still life subjects. I do like horses, junkyard cars and other subjects, but just can't seem to get away from my first love. Here's a link for the Arkell. http://www.clag.org/communitygalleries.html

This weekend I will participate in the annual Hagaman, NY Fall Art Show. A very nice little show and with the added plus that the juror usually is persuaded to dictate a personalized card of critique comments for each artists to take home. The Cooperstown Regional Show will run from May 6 to June 3 and is located at 22 Main Street, Cooperstown, NY 13326, in the Village Library building across the street from the Baseball Hall of Fame. Hours are Daily 11 am to 4 pm, Sunday 1 pm to 4 pm and closed on Tuesdays.

A Few of My Favorite Things

Fall went by fast, but an annual favorite show is the Hagaman Annual Autumn Art Show. Each artist has a 4' x 8' space and so a nice grouping of work can be arranged. Here is a picture of my 2010 entries. You will notice another large (for me) piece I finished just in time. The title is "Northern Lights". A moment of reflected light and color I happened upon in my kitchen. You can see the same area in a larger view in my piece below titled "A Little Night Music".

I also participated in the Cooperstown Art Association's Members' Christmas Artwork Sale as well as the NCAC Christmas Sale.

New Larger Pics

I recently completed two large (for me) drawings. The Show will run until January 29 and the hours for viewing are: Mon., Fri., and Sat. - 9am-12; Tues. - 9 am to 8 pm; Wed. and Thurs. - 9 am to 4 pm.

Portals at Arkell

"Portals", (See my bookshelf image below) has been accepted for the 2009 Arkell Annual Juried Art Show at the Arkell Museum, located at 2 Erie Boulevard, Canajoharie, New York. This library is an architectural masterpiece erected with funds provided by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. This artwork was created as a donation piece for the silent auction fundraiser to be held on Sunday, September 27, 2009. All donated artwork will be on display during the month of September on Main Street in Gloversville and a fundraiser calendar with photographs of the donated works will also be prepared as a gift for those who attend the auction and for later sale. This was a very challenging piece because of the intricacy of the architectural details, but very enjoyable and interesting too. All the donation pieces can be seen on the flickr link here. It is a beautiful lace-curtain pattern shadow covering an antique vase of white peonies, with a bright orange begonia blossom reflected in the vase. This was a very exciting piece to work on and a challenge to balance the bright colored begonia with the soft shadow pattern and more subtle colors of the other vase. I also have another shadow pattern piece in the sketch stage and would like to finish this also in time for the Hagaman Fall Art Show. I am very fascinated by shadow shapes and patterns and my next still-life pieces will probably tend to continue with this theme for a while longer.

I love old trucks!

This May I completed a series of vintage truck paintings. These trucks have been “parked” in a hedgerow for many years behind the site of an antique engine show I attend and I am always attracted by the interesting shapes and relationships these beautiful, rusty vehicles and overgrowing weeds and vines present. I have five pieces and I believe that the finished series will include another five. Another projected project will be a new series of draft horse themed paintings.
