This exhibition celebrates the 100th anniversary of women's right to vote. The Art Center is located at 2736 Route 30, Gloversville, NY and this exhibition runs until March 27 when a reception from 6-8 pm will close the show. The drawing captures my daughter's hands in a long ago outing we shared. The image has always seemed iconic - the simple and enduring moment of intimacy experienced by two people over a pot of tea.
"Footlights" is a pastel still life collection in a favorite genre - a still life of shiny and reflective silver objects. "Gimme a Little Squeeze" is an accidental still life grouping of lemon slices in the bottom of my sink. This show runs from February 12 - March 14. The Gallery is located at 71 Lawrence Street, Studio 120, Glens Falls, NY and is open every day from 8am to 5pm.
This subject of this drawing is rather a whimsical one. The cabbage teapot and other greenware items provided many nooks and crannies for a froggy game of hide and seek. I created the spooky shadow areas with a flashlight. See if you can find the one who is hiding.
I always spent Friday afternoons with him watching the old westerns cable channel. We sat in the matching recliners with lap quilts and sometimes he wanted to hold my hand. I usually had some art things and my camera handy and captured some lovely images while he was snoozing. Most shows require that pieces be for sale but I was able to show this piece at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts and NCA Crandall Library juried shows. Since I focused on the hands in soft light for this piece and did not show my father's face, I felt that it had a wider meaning to anyone who has an elderly loved one with the beautifully weathered hands of a long life. He passed away soon after I took this photo.
"The Beet Goes On" was on display in Glens Falls, NY at (LARAC) Lower Adirondack Regional Art Council's juried theme show - The Process. The show will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 5 & 6 from 12 noon to 4 pm at Pawling Hall, 86 Pawling Street, Hagaman, NY. There will be 60 talented area artists in a variety of mediums, lots of fall snacks and free admission. Here is a one of my pastels - a drawing of my granddaughter, Katey, from long ago, sleepy and tired after an outing that included face-painting and a lot of walking. It was FUN to do.
The show is on display at the 401 Gallery, 401 Canal Street, Little Falls, NY until August 31. My drawing was a whimsical idea prompted by some garden figurines and a green cabbage teapot. I lit the scene artificially with a gooseneck lamp to place the shadows in the pattern I had in mind. See if you can find the hidden frog before his two playmates do.
This was a special drawing because it was from a photo slyly taken of my Dad snoozing in his recliner. He passed away soon after.
"Teapot Rising was also juried in. This piece was also staged with a flashlight. I especially like this whimsy piece and was initially tickled by the image of exploding milk on the milk top package. The soft, yellow teapot emerging from shadow seemed like a rising moon and gave the title idea to me.
This Asian-themed piece was very complex and challenging to draw and took a long time to finish. The pieces are pulled from my karate-loving daughter's old bedroom dresser display. I was thinking about her as I lovingly worked on the varied items.
The Art Center holds several shows each year for local and not so local artists. My pieces were "A Moment for Mucha" - tribute to Alphonse Mucha, the turn of the century advertising and decorative artist, "Baby Makes Three" - a challenge I set for myself for an all black and white composition and "The Beet Goes On" - created for a show with the theme "full circle".
I found this piece an especially challenging subject because of the detail in the antique silver items. Many miles were put on my electric eraser as I refined and adjusted the reflections and subtle shifts in value. I think my love of old silver "shines" through!
The Museum is celebrating its 10th year and chose to mark the milestone with a special retrospective on all the area artists who have ever participated in any of the events in their art gallery section. The Museum is located at 76 Milton Avenue in Ballston Spa. The show runs through September 1 and the hours are 10am-4pm Friday-Tuesday, closed Wednesday and Thursday.

"Guard Dog" is a little scene I see every day in a little window by my stairway. It was really challenging to draw the little glints of colored light and sparkle coming through the old bottles. The dog figurine sat on the table at my grandmother's house to hold the toothpicks!
This is a themed show - "Earthly Possessions", as expressed by seven very different artists. This show closes July 27, 2018 and Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 10am-5pm and 12-5 on Sunday. Closed on Mondays.

The Smithy is located in the oldest building in Cooperstown, NY. It was built in 1786 by village founder, Judge William Cooper, father of the author, James Fenimore Cooper, as a blacksmith shop. Many original features of the shop can still be seen on the first floor. The second and third floors have been used over the years as a carriage repair shop and a masonic hall. All three floors now form a very unique and eclectic art gallery.
The Lake Placid Center for the Arts annual juried show was themed as "Flower Power" and so I needed to create a suitable drawing. I had a lovely and inspiring reference photo of a cemetery angel surrounded by flowers. I named this brand new piece "Remembrances".
This show is part of the Parks & Trails New York Bicentennial Celebration of the Erie Canal. My pastel, Blue Grotto, and my colored pencil drawing, Confidants, are among the artwork on display. I chose them to compliment the Erie Canal theme. Here I am at the reception with my two pieces.

I was very surprised and please to be notified that my drawing, Farm Days, was chosen for the 3rd Prize Best of Show in the Drawing Category at the recent Fulton Montgomery Art Show, held at the Paul Nigra Center for the Arts. My background is farming and my parents were farm equipment dealers so these still life items have a lot of nostalgia for me.

I was also very please to be notified that my drawing, "Playing Hookey", was chosen for Masters Division at the View Juried Art Show in Old Forge, NY. Masters Division represents the top 10 percent of pieces at the show as determined by the artist chosen to judge the show and determine award recipients. "Playing Hookey" is a personal favorite piece. A whimsy image of a stern rooster teacher, his little egg pupils and one little hookey player hiding out under the bridge for the day.

The Paul Nigra Center for the Arts "Art of Disguise" show last winter chose my pastel drawing, "Butterfly Dreams", as their postcard advertising image. This was a special drawing for me because it is my granddaughter, Katey, (now 16) enjoying her face-painting session at a street fair. A sweet time to remember.
The show runs from February 4 through March 24 with hours of noon to 5 pm.

My pieces are normally relatively small so this is a show I always enter and hope to be selected for. This year my drawing, "Hot Tub", was chosen. This image was suggested by a collection of sea theme items on one of my windowsills. A star fish and his sea horse friends all relaxing in a bubbly tub of marbles.
I also am showing a drawing in the Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts Winter Art Show. This gallery is located at 2736 State Highway 30, Gloversville, NY. My selected piece is called "It's Not Kansas" and is a tribute to the Wonderful Wizard and the books that live on and on for children of all ages.
(and this and that)My new piece, "Baby Makes Three", was recently selected as one of 5 Juror's Choice awards at the North Country Arts annual juried show at the Crandall Library in Glens Falls, NY. I had set myself the task of a black and white only drawing and I really liked bringing out the subtleties of the objects with only my two pencils and the mid-tone gray of the paper.
Two of my drawing were shown in the Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts teachers and students' show in Little Falls, NY. Here are some of them. "Bones in the Woods" was accepted at the Adirondack Artists Guild juried show in Saranac Lake, New York. This piece was previously created for a themed show - "Back to Nature".

Cooperstown Art Association's Regional Juried Show accepted "The Beet Goes On". This piece was originally created for a themed show called "Full Circle" and shows the circle from seed to finished food for the table.

A new piece, "A Night at the Opera", was accepted for "View" Juried Show in Old Forge, New York. This one shows a froggy couple having a night of culture out on the town. It was fun to do and I especially liked the idea of showing the foreground figures from the back and their faces reflected in the background mirror.

Don't have a photo, but a drawing of the Erie Canal ruins at Schoharie Crossing, "Portals to the Past", received an honorable mention at the Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts juried exhibition.

October brought the annual Hagaman Fall Art Show. My new black and white drawing, Baby Makes Three", received a first place ribbon in the Drawing category. I have many interesting antique and collectable objects around my house and these two birds suggested a novel idea for a composition. I felt that limiting myself to black and white would be an interesting project also.

"Silk Road Stroll" was accepted at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts juried show. This piece took a VERY long time to complete and I am very proud of it and happy to see it displayed.

A new pastel, "Butterfly Dreams", was accepted for the Paul Nigra Center for the Arts Fall Art Show, "The Art of Disguise", and was chosen as the image used for advertising the show online and on postcards. This image was from an old photo of my granddaughter, Katey, all dolled up with a fanciful face-painting job. The current show will run until January 10 at the Paul Nigra Center, 2736 NY Rte 30, Gloversville, New York.

Most recently, my froggy drawing, (see above) back from Old Forge, was selected for the Arkell Museum and Canajoharie Library juried show. The museum/library is located at 2 Erie Boulevard, Canajoharie, New York. The opening will be December 1 from 5-7 pm. The show opened for viewing on November 3rd and will be on display until January 3, 2018. My piece is in the downstairs gallery. The other two gallery areas are located in the library section of the building.
